Overcoming Trauma: Rewriting Your Story

OVERCOMING TRAUMA: REWRITING YOUR STORY

You’re not alone if you experience “learned trauma reactions,” such as fight/flight, freeze/collapse, or fawning. Many individuals carry the weight of past traumas that influence their daily lives, often without even realizing it. But there’s hope. Hypnosis is a very effective “memory consolidation” process – a powerful path towards lasting recovery.

Triggers happen outside our conscious choice.

Our neurological system is designed to become instantly aware of perceived danger to our safety. Trauma increases that sensitivity and our unconscious mind learns ways to react to protect us. While those reactions had an original positive intent, they became unuseful and destructive habits later in life. We can be triggered back there and then as if we are still that younger person experiencing the trauma.

Hypnosis is very effective in deleting that habit reaction and creating new patterns appropriate for the life we want to live here and now to create the future we want.

Learned trauma responses are automatic reactions that develop as a result of past traumatic experiences. These responses can include:

  • Fight/Flight: This is the body’s natural response to a perceived threat. It involves heightened alertness, increased heart rate, and the urge to confront or escape from danger.

  • Freeze/Collapse: Sometimes, when faced with overwhelming trauma, our bodies shut down. We become immobile, disconnected, and unable to respond effectively.

  • Fawning: Paradoxically, we can have a survival reaction where we seek to appease or please others in stressful situations. This often results from past experiences where compliance was necessary for our sense of safety.

Hypnotism and Memory Reconsolidation to Remove Trauma Reactions

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to help individuals reframe their responses to past trauma. Here’s how it works:

  • Memory Consolidation: Hypnosis is an effective memory consolidation technique to help you remove trauma reactions from past traumatic experiences. Even without revisiting the details of those memories, we can work together to process habitual trauma reactions in a controlled and safe environment,

  • Discovering Unconscious Protective Patterns: Hypnosis allows you to access the parts of your unconscious mind running habitual protective reactions as if you are still back "there and then." You can replace these automatic reactions with healthier, more adaptive responses.

  • Empowerment and Resilience: Through hypnosis, you’ll better understand your trauma reactions and develop tools to manage and replace them effectively. This empowerment can help you regain control over your life.

  • Lasting Change: Unlike temporary coping mechanisms, hypnotherapy aims to create lasting change by addressing the root causes of learned trauma responses.
